Monster cookies originated as a way to combine several types of cookies into one, essentially making a “kitchen sink” cookie. They’re incredibly versatile; you can add nuts, pretzels, or even coconut to make them your own. What makes them special is their chewy texture from the oats, the nutty flavor from the peanut butter, and the pockets of melty chocolate and crunchy candies. They’re excellent for bake sales, parties, or simply when you want something indulgent and satisfying.
Yield: About 3 dozen cookies

Cook Time: 12 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups creamy peanut butter
- 1 ½ cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 4 ½ cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup M&M’s (plus more for topping)
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2
Cream together the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, beating until fully incorporated. Stir in baking soda and salt. Add oats and flour, mixing just until combined. The dough will be thick. Fold in chocolate chips and M&M’s.
Step 3
Scoop large spoonfuls (about 2 tablespoons each) of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon and press a few extra M&M’s on top for decoration.
Step 4
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers look slightly underbaked. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
